BLACK HOLE

...

the vacuum of eternity creates anxiety -- alone?  forsaken?  are You there?!

to ask the question, to want to ask, implies that it is fully expected that You ARE there, to answer!

... Jesus?  ... the angst is deafening...

1In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1)

EMPTY EASTER

EMPTY  EASTER

Strangely silent are all the old sites,

Where He would teach, sharing Heaven’s light.

Empty are the spots, where we sat to listen.

“Oh, dear God, the Teacher is missing!”

Gone is the laughter; the joy is forgotten.

Anxiety and alarm – I’m feeling forsaken?!

Empty is my heart, as I trudge this path,

Carrying these spices for their object of wrath.

We all thought Him to be “the hope of Israel.”

But, now He is gone, down to death’s dark vale.

Empty are our hopes, meaningless and vain.

The kingdom’s former glory, never to attain?

Their taunts and their sneers, I yet feel the sting.

Their curses and unbelief, in my ears still ring.

“Empty promises…” the thief moaned in pain;

But, the other whispered “… in paradise…” again and again?!

The Romans will be there; I hope they’re not rude.

But moving that stone without them is simply no good.

Empty are their stations; the guards are all gone?

We’ve wasted a trip; the anointing will go undone.

I do not know how, but the stone’s rolled back;

Over there, off by itself, completely off track!

Empty is the rut, down which it rolled,

When they sealed Him in, lifeless and cold.

“Why seek ye the living among the dead?”

That’s what the angel surely has said!

Empty-headed women!  Too long in the sun?

Let’s run down there now and see what’s been done.

Do you see what I see?  Shrunken and collapsed?

The grave clothes are there!  How can this be grasped?

Empty are the clothes, the napkin neatly alone,

Like an empty cocoon, from which the butterfly has flown?!

“Tear it down, and in three days it will be back…”

You can count on it; write it down; that’s a fact!

Empty is the ledger; zeroed out my account!

“It is finished” – paid in full – on Calvary’s mount!

No man-made idols of gold in the Temple ever did sit.

Only the shekinah glory would properly fit.

An empty tomb filled only with His glory!

That is the truth; now, that is my story!

"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"

to this I'd add -- "O tomb, where is thy trophy?!"

NOXIOUS WEED GARDEN

NOXIOUS WEED GARDEN

My godly wife likes to help God with His bird-feeding chores!  She feeds the hummingbirds, which are anything but nice – vicious, selfish, tiny kamikazes!  And, she likes to fill her other feeders with “bird seed” which does not grow into new birds, but rather introduces all manner of weeds to the area under and adjacent the feeders!  I have no earthly idea what some of those plants are.  Well, I do know that they are “undesirables”!  I have asked her to feed only sunflower seeds and maybe corn or something like that.  But, I do not want weeds volunteering from the “birdseed”.

We are bird-brains.  Darkness spreads lid a poisonous vine from little seeds that we plant in our minds.  The innocent and verdant “garden of Eden” is exchanged for a thought world of briars and weeds.  Instead of roses and daisies, we cultivate thorny, ugly, viscous-oozing, poisonous vines and bushes.  And, these substitutes are invasive and hardy and prolific.  With little effort, they take over and the beautiful paradise that was heaven sent degenerates into a dark, brooding, dangerous jungle.

There are many different “seeds” that we let take root, if not calculatingly cultivate within the fields of our mind – lies, rationalizations, half-truths, self-deceptions, self-flattery, distortions, inaccuracies, …  on and on goes the list.  The Kingdom does indeed grow from a mustard seed.  But, the dominion of darkness sprouts from tares that the enemy sows in the field of one’s mind.  To be sure, Jesus mentioned letting the tares grow with the wheat, but undoubtedly He had in mind misguided individuals, not mistaken ideas.  Scripture admonishes us to “guard our hearts” and to “think on things above” and to “think soberly, righteously, godly…” .  God has warned that “a man is as he thinks in his heart” – good or bad!  Out of the heart comes the issues of life.  The Scriptures themselves can be “twisted to one’s own destruction”!

Discernment is needed to distinguish good seed and bad seed.  Sometimes just verbalizing one’s thinking would create a “yeah, right?!  You idiot!”  Try it!  Good or bad – “everybody else is doing it”?!  Let’s try another – “I’m worth it!”?! (advertising has refined some of these seed-ideas to a fine art)  A more subtle one?  “they owe me!  This is my way of balancing the tab!”

A cluster of “bad-seeds” with a similar theme might include – “what’s one more mess up?” or, “in for a penny  – in for a pound" ("in for a dime – in for a dollar” US version)  or, “56 mph – 76 mph!  what’s the difference?” (a couple hundred dollars!)  All these are the spawn of Hell designed to turn a mistake into a lifestyle.  Rather, one needs to recognize the mistake, turn around, and run in the other direction as fast as possible!  Be like Joseph, and run out of the room!

Perhaps it would help to imagine the whole garden being full of the novel, new nut-grass.  The potted plant will find its way out of the pot and take over!  Imagine what the different seeds grow into.  Lust can turn into a destroyed marriage.  At the very least, it will dominate a mind that becomes more carnal and spiritually dull.  Porn is NOT an aphrodisiac; it is an acrid, insidious, invasive, parasitic weed.  The beauty of the rose will be forgotten.  Greed will force out of one’s heart any thought of God.  Jesus warns that both cannot be cultivated.  Hatred and anger will grow into murder.  A grudge will grow into retaliation and vengeance.

What are the ways to defeat weeds?  Sometimes  a dose of herbicide is needed.  Agent Orange may be called for sometimes?!  One can pull up weeds.  A good hoe is worth the investment.  Vigilance and early intervention are very helpful.  A good ground cover is difficult for weeds to penetrate and establish themselves.  Maybe a weed-barrier fabric is called for?!

There is a list of fruit seeds that will grow the garden of God – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control!  Imagine what this garden would look like when cultivated and nourished?!  Eden would be reborn!

REACHING THROUGH THE BLOOD

REACHING THROUGH THE BLOOD

“... they do not understand; they are reaching through the blood!”  My co-worker interjected this comment during our job chatter.  Our hands were covered with grease; but, our minds were in the heavens.  And, his comment exploded in my mind, and kept my night’s sleep less than restful.  My messed up mind was envisioning a clawed, demonic hand reaching into a forbidden dimension through the covering of the Blood. In my mind I could see a sci-fi image crossing into a taboo dimension, through a wall of blood.

There are some places we have no business intruding.  Only once a year, only the High Priest could enter the Most Holy Place, making atonement for the sins of the nation.  Behind the veil was a forbidden, mysterious aura where sins were appeased and others dare not tread that Holy Place.  It is demonic activity to reach through the veil of forgiveness and retrieve a dead trespass and try to resurrect something that God has buried?!

This R/S, resurrected sin, takes on a life that is unnatural and unholy.  It could be called an “i-zombie” – an iniquity zombie.  It is a vampire-like, blood-drenched ghoul that needs a Calvary stake through its heart.  But, the demon has returned, with his friends.  And, sadly, some fallen fool has helped the living dead to walk among the holy ones.  Jesus mentions some demons “come out only with prayer and fasting” and the “R/S” is especially unholy.

This conversation began with comments about some preacher choosing to avoid using a gospel quartet because of some past indiscretions.  Ironically, it was noted that this same preacher had some guard-dogs nipping at his heels over some dredged up stuff on him!  Martin Luther is quoted saying, “Only the Devil brings up forgiven sins.”  With our tongue we can set the world on fire, the fires of Hell! We are participating with the schemes of the Devil!  (James 2)  We give new life to covered, buried, forgiven sins.  The Biblical warnings about “gossip” begin to take on a more serious light?!

“… as far as the east is from the west …” is the language of Scripture when it speaks of forgiven sin.  But, the demons go on a scavenger hunt trying to revive these dead sins and employ them in their schemes to steal, kill, and destroy the hearts and souls of the sons of Adam.  They want to go diving in the “sea of forgetfulness” and retrieve what God has cast there.  And, we are far too often unwitting helpers, at best; and, at worst we are dark souls in league with Hell.

“… love covers a multitude of sins…”  “… love keeps no record of wrongs …”  These sentiments are the directions to the high road, the route to the heavenly highway.  The Lord Jesus once basically instructed some angry, hate-filled hot-heads, “drop your stones”!  What he said was, “he that is without sin, let him cast the first stone” as the crowd shoved the adulterous woman at his feet and demanded Jesus to quote the Law.  But, Love covered a multitude of sins, and the stones dropped from their hands.  We need to let the $10 debts go, and reflect on our own $10B overdraft?!

Recently, my wife and I were discussing a particularly difficult sin that has surfaced in our community.  A man was accused of sleeping with his teen daughter.  Agh!  Does it get any worse than that?  We discussed how we might handle such a nightmare if it were in our immediate family.  I thought I was looking at an angel as my wife softly suggested, “… we have to forgive …”?!

What motivates such damaging, demonic cooperation?  Why do we act like this?  Some of it may be smoke to cover and excuse our own bad behavior and bent hearts?  Some of it may be power grabbing as poor sinners are manipulated into cages?  Agendas are pushed with no regard for the not-so-innocent bystander! (much like the woman cast at the feet of Jesus?!)  Some of it is likely just sad, sick, sordid thrill-seeking, whether ignorantly, or darkly disseminated?  Some sick souls just seem to enjoy destructively setting fires.

What are the results of a R/S?  What does our tale-bearing effect?  Discord is sown.  Fellowship is destroyed.  Relationships are damaged.  Struggling disciples are disheartened.  Jesus warned about offending such little ones, and mentions something else being cast into the sea!  Another after-effect is our distraction from our mission.  We focus on what should be forgotten, and forget what should be our focus?!

God has a way of protecting His secrets?  Ananias and Sapphira found out the hard way about telling lies about God.  Not all of us have been struck down, yet, for our gossip and tale-bearing.  But, sowing discord among brothers, causing little ones to stumble, attacking God’s anointed, … these things are dangerously close to entering the Most Holy Place?!

“… the secret things belong unto God …”  may contextually belong to another discussion, but it fits well here?!  Another text mentions, “…what God has joined together, let not man put asunder…”  God has put my sins with the un-sin of Jesus, and the balance is zero!  But, the demons of hell are calling like collection agents who have found my number.  But, they have no power over me!

But, to make sure the point is not missed, maybe you need to remember such axioms as “let sleeping dogs lie” or maybe “do not stir the crap; it will stink”.  If you must talk, then go talk TO the sinner, not ABOUT the sinner!  Do not resurrect forgiven sins.

BROKEN LEGS

BROKEN LEGS

“This is really a pile of crap – all I did was take a few things, and now they are taking my life?!  Is this really fair, by any stretch of the imagination?  Come on now!  Let’s get real.”

“Enough.  Your whining is not helping.  We are here to die.  We deserve it.  But, this other fellow?  The crowd is more upset with him than with either of us, even both of us put together?!”

“Hey, preacher man!  Yeah, you, ‘miracle-man’ – how about a little miracle for us?!  Get us out of this god-forsaken mess!  No?  I thought not.  You are just another lazy liar…”

“Sir, I can hear what the crowd is sneering about.  Somehow, I believe you can and will reign?!  Maybe there is a place for a soul like me in your kingdom?  Don’t forget about me, please?”

(weakly smiling)  “You will be with me! Today!  In Paradise!  Just believe!”

“Holy shit!  Not our legs!  Don’t break our legs!  No!  O-o-o-w-w-w!  No, not the other one too!  O-o-o-w-w-w!  Damn you!  You just broke my legs, both of them!  With a hammer!  You just swung and took out my legs?!  Barbarians!”

(prayerfully)  “My new friend, Jesus, you are already gone.  But, you have come through with your promise!  I will not hang here for days, suffering in agony and suffocating!  Shortly, I will be with you!  Like this darkened sun, I will close my eyes and joyfully open them in the morning, in glory!”

Two men.  Two pairs of legs broken.  Two perspectives.  Two attitudes.  Two reactions.  Two results.

Many things in life get broken – promises, hearts, homes, opportunities, career-paths, character, confidence, … but, through it all, He is still in control.  How should one react to things broken?  Just believe!
