Wright and Whisp

Wright and Whisp

They sat on the park bench and one commented, “have you ever wondered how they stay in the air?”  The other responded “…listen to the shrill of that eagle…!”  And so their conversation began, two strangers who chanced to meet. (one waiting on his flight’s ETD, and the other ESP, or maybe LSD?!)

“I am with Boeing, a mechanical engineer who specialized in aerodynamics.  What are you?”  “Oh, I just muse in the wind, unemployed for now, but working on some things…”

“Did you know that the Wright brothers studied bird wings to formulate their flight ideas?”  “…hmmm… how close to the Sun can one fly before the wax melts…?”

“What?  What do you mean?!”  “Oh, just wondering what his world is like – freedom, floating, fearless – so foreign to mine…”

“You have to do the calculus on pressure differential, lift, coefficient of … but you can duplicate all this!”  “…you know, angels have wings in sacred writings…”

Listen. It’s been nice talking, but I have a flight I have to catch.  Work calls.”  The air-head seemed not to have heard him.  He had a far-away look in his eyes as if he heard another voice calling him.

I just soared above them, wondering if either would ever really fly.  But, there’s hope; they are watching me!!
